It is more easily to look after lhasa apso hair than of the other dogs with long hair because of the hair structure: it is thick.
If we don't neglect it, the knots rarely form. It is good to the dog got used to all of these pratices since it is a puppy.
At the beginning (sincce 4 month), most of these measures seem to be unnecessary; hair isn't shaped entirely so haircut and brushing don't take much time. However these routine activities are very important; if our friend gets used to this quick, daily practice gradually he won't be neither aggressive nor scared when we want to repeat the same activities. For your dog had beautiful hair most of all he has to be healthy. Appearance of the hair is a kind of a barometer which helps us find out whether the dog is on good shape or is suffering from some disease. Rough hair or hair without gloss is the alarm signal: it is better to take the dog to the vet. He will examine the dog and determine the reasons of hair bad appearance. The reasons might be different: parasites, indigence in feeding, damage of the liver or other pathologies, easy to heal when they are detected in time.
Let us assume that your friend is healthy. First you have to teach him how to stand and lie patient on the table. This way you will be able to execute all activities connected with hygiene safely and without chasing your dog over the whole home. What you need to take care of your dog is a classic brush without small balls at the end, a comb with long and spread ending and a comb with thick ending.
Just before combing, spray your dog's hair with the suitable moisturizing and oiling preparation, available in single-line shops. First brush the dog according to the arrangment of its hair. Do it gently. It is important to reach the skin, however be carefull and do not to scratch it. It is necessary to brush paws and belly. It is necessary to trim hair growing between pads and round feet. Trim claws periodically quality.

To bath your lhasa you will need a shampoo for long-haired dogs and the high-quality balm. When you bath the dog for the first time, remember that you also can have the opportunity to take a small shower. It is necessary to put a rubber pad at the bottom of the bathtub so that your dog didn't slide and didn't hurt itself and so that he wasn't frightened what could cause unpleasant assiciations. Put him in the bathtub and start the bath. Water should have marginally higher temperature than the temperature of the body. Water sholuld't get the ears.

When you wet the dog, soap it and clean it massaging so that the shampoo reach the skin. Do it twice and then dissolve the balm in water and flush the dog. Cover your friend with the towel and let it dry a little bit. Then use a hairdrier helping yourself with the brush. You should also check if your dog doesn't have such parasites like fleas or ticks.
