The character and natural
behavior
I am the boss
Lhasa apso has the character. Lhasa is "a big dog" with
small size. He is the natural leader of the flock and his strong personality
tells him to dominate in any situation. He doesn't care about the risk or
the results of its action when it rivals with other dogs, even if they are
bigger than him. He wants to confirm his superiority.
He has good relations with his master like equal with equal. He loves him,
respects him, he protects him, but he also requires respect. It is difficult
to impose anything on lhasa apso, if you are severe or brutal. It is possible
however to convince him easily being gently. Lhasa is an intelligent and
independent dog. It is very movig to watch him solving delicate problems by
himself. It is just like was wondering about the best solution. Lhasa has
innumerable talents. It is also the faithful companion in all situations.
He will accompany you everywhere, never tied down with his extensive "gown".
He has the ideal height if you live in the town; it easily getting used to
the life in the flat. It will be sufficient to take him regularly for walks
so that he could take care of his physiological needs A long walk from time
to time would also be goog to help it keep a great form.
If you want to train lhasa, it is best to begin to do it when he is a puppy.
Such trainings help to create strong bonds and trust between a dog and a
master. Lhasa is the dog which very easily gets nervous. If you rebuke him
for making the mistake which it didn't make it can feel offended for a long
time, but it would be enough to stroke it to make it forgive you. If lhasa
shows the strong personality it may also show a lot of tenderness. The
coexistence of these two so various features is in my opinion the most
fascinating thing in this dog. When we see this dog tripping and barking
during the walkits lofty walk on catwalks of exhibitions, it is possible to
think it is so "serious" that it becomes sad and boring.
However at home we find out that lhasa can do anything only to be stroked.
If he wants to win heart of its master it is able to use its subtlety and
exceptional joy of the life. The face of this small guard has a great charm
when it is cheerful. In fact lhasa is a little bit like an orange: the thick
and tough skin surrounds and protects the invigorating substance of
thousands of tastes - from most wry to most gentle. The most sophisticated
palate would chnge its taste after dicovering the essence of lhasa.
Anybody may be caught in "a pitfall"
and remain under the charm of this original dog, being able to create different
relations with each member of the family, with slightly bigger precedence for
the person whom he chose to be its master.
Lhasa apso adores playing and loves children; it is ready
to endure their rankness and the liveliness with the improbable patience.
Forgetting about difficult conditions of the Tibetan life it is capable of
spending many hours in your arms or sleeping spread over your feet. Like
all dogs it likes to be hugged but in contrary to other races its reaction
is never excessive: it shows his gratitude but he never exaggerates in expressing
feelings. It is able to survive the absence of its master without falling into
desperation or without showing exaggerated impatience. If you have to be absent
for the longer time, it won't bark without break or "arrange" everything what
will come its way; it will find some toy for itself and will be waiting for
you with trust and the patience. It is possible to tell, that lhasa apso is
able to organize its life in a great harmony with the requirements of its
family.
Conclusions
Beyond doubt it is splendid to raise lhasa apso. It is
also pleasant to have it as your companion. Lhasa is one of most complete
and coercing races; is history is undeniably full of beauty and full of
symbols and fertile personality of lhasa is exciting.
All dogs races certainly have faults but lhasa has so much charm that it is
difficult to resist him. You can often hear breeders saying that when you
once get to know this race better yoy don't want to have any other. The ones
who keep it as the family friend, rarely want to have a different race after
himIt is maybe because that this small, healthy dog with long hair, is like
Kurosawa's heroes, "Dersou Ouzala": he resembles the lion and he has a great
heart. Lhasa apso consists of the contradiction: it is sensitive and
energetic, determined and is a master to itself, cheerful and self-restrained,
lazy and indifferent, it can devote itself, has got the voice of the lion
and a great attachment of the dog. Anybody who has already had lhasa, beyond
doubt adopt another one, because isn't able to deal without this race.
Somebody who hasn't had it will take one for suer when he see its magic eyes.
